It was at the inaugural contest that Julius Erving earned his doctorate by soaring to victory. Dr. J was an overpowering force within a struggling league as he led his New York Nets to the final ABA title. Erving was named the final MVP of the crumbling ABA after he established himself as the leagues top scorer, averaging 29.3 ppg. After the 1976 season, the ABA folded and the Doctor found a position with the Philadelphia Seventy-Sixers. Erving, who spent the remainder of his career in Philadelphia, went on to lead the Sixers to the 1983 NBA title....
